Bridging Ladders/Waffles
I got a pair of these after a 4x4 weekend where I got
stuck once and another mate got stuck in a situation where I think having
these would have enabled us to get out without being recovered. They have
several uses including bridging small gaps or ditches, putting down over
very thick muddy areas, using as a ramp to get up/down steep drop-offs,
jamming under the tyres when you have lost all traction, hi-lift jack
bases, trailer ramps etc etc.

I bought a pair on eBay from a seller called
"keithbareham" although there are often several sellers selling
what appear to be exactly the same product, and with delivery a reasonable
eBay price seems to be £30-£40 per pair (although I have seen
them on there for £75+delivery for a pair) so it's worth being patient
and not over-bidding. This is certainly much cheaper than most specialist
off-road places where I have seen them for as much as £57 for one
single waffle (and that is a "special" price if buying 4)!!!!
I was a bit unsure if I was buying sub-standard goods as the price seemed
so good but they seem to be strong enough as the pictures show (they are
meant to flex when load-bearing) and they seem to be exactly the same
material as others I have seen. Although I have not tested them in anger
or "for real" yet.

The waffles I got were 1225mm long x 310mm
wide x 38mm thick. They are made of fibreglass and the top surface is
gritted for extra traction. They are not super-light at about 7kg per
waffle. I want to find some way of attaching them to the rear spare wheel
carrier when 4x4'ing as once used they will most likely be caked in mud
and I don't really want two large mud-covered waffles in the back of the
truck.
