Thermostat Renewal
Another recommended job to do to newly imported Surfs as a precaution against head problems due to dodgy cooling system (see also Coolant Flush).
Tools/Equipment Needed
- New thermostat.
- 12mm socket.
- Bucket/container.
| Fisrt of all, you need to drain a litre or two of coolant from the cooling system, see Coolant Flush for details. | ||
Remove the three bolts on the thermostat housing - only one is visible here (A). Once all three bolts are removed pull the housing apart. If the housing will not come apart easily just gently tap with a mallet, do not jam anything inbetween or attempt to pull the two sides apart at an angle otherwise you could damage the surfaces or thermostat seal. |

Remove the old thermostat (A). Carefully take the rubber seal off the old thermostat and put it on the new one. Ensure the faces of the two sides of the housing are clean and free from any gunk. |

Install the new thermostat (A) and put the two sides of the housing together and do up the three bolts again. |
