4x4 Sites Please note - this is a REVIEW of a 4x4 site. This web site in not affiliated in any way with Toms Farm, so please do not contact me regarding Toms Farm. Toms Farm, Mid Wales, UK - A great 4x4/Motorbike/Quad site
Some photos from Toms Farm can be found in the Photos section here. Overview Tom is a very nice bloke who is often around the camp talking to people, warns you of various places not to go or to be wary of depending on the weather and your ability but other than that seems happy for people to do what they want. Various fields available for camping (in fact I think you could probably camp where you want on the entire site). Lots of motorbikes and quads around all weekend, fewer 4x4's but still probably 20 at any one time but the site is so big it never seemed even nearly crowded. The Good: Huge site with some great tracks and terrain, from easy rolling tracks to deadly steep slopes. Aywhere goes, no set routes and no pretty much no restrictions. Able to light camp fires - forests nearby where you can collect wood (but not walking distance) or take your own. The Bad: Although a huge site the terrain is not all that varied - i.e. it's pretty much all open rolling hills with mud or grass, no forests or anything "different". I think the freedom you have to go where you want and do what you want goes to some peoples heads. For example, the camp (unfortunately next to us) burning tyres all night, and driving wrecklessly around the site (probably while pissed) chasing sheep. The Ugly: Lots of wrecked vehicles around, and lots of tyres and general junk - its a shame becuase it seems to make people even less likely to tidy up after themselves - we certainly saw several camps left with loads of litter and junk just left all over the place. Facilities Portaloo toilets, burger van, and not a lot else. Not sure even if there is running water but there could be. There are also some caravans in various states of disrepair which are available to rent, don't know how much though. Cost When we went 4x4's were £15 per day, motorbikes £7.50 per day and camping was £5 per night (per person I think). Not sure how much quad bikes are. Conclusion Great site let down by a few issues - my advice is to go there now before it gets shut down. Location
