Recall Notices
Here are some details of some Surf recall notices, taken
from a Japanese site - the translations are not quite perfect as you will
see, but hopefully they will give you a rough idea and the first one of
them could also can explain the often talked about "head cracking"
problems:
Cylinder Head/Gasket
Frame numbers: Q-LN130W, Q-LN130G,
LN130-0083737 - LN130-108267, LN130-0083738 - LN130-0108262, LN130-7000008
- LN130-7000009
Report date: June 18 1992
Production period: November 12th 1991 - April 27 1992
Condition circumstances: The turbo (the supercharger)
it is attached and because the cylinder head gasket of the Diesel engine
(the airtight material) rigidity is low, when when driving such as high
load travelling was continued, the combustion gas, starts leaking to the
cold water circulating passage from the particular gasket, when there
are times when the chilled water of the radiator is pushed out outside,
continue use in this way state, low coolant becomes, overheats, it is
worst, there is a possibility of reaching to the burn of the engine.
Fix: All vehicle, the cylinder head gasket is exchanged
to the measure item.
Fan Coupling/Water Pump
Frame numbers: S-LN85, LN85-0006524
- LN85-0030101
Report Date: June 26 1990
Production period: March 17th 1989 - April 16 1990
Condition circumstances: Because the water pump shaft
for cooling which is installed in the Diesel engine (the water pump axis)
with the fan coupling which is been connected (the fan joint) structure
of the bearing is inadequate, resonating due to the vibration of the gin,
excessive load falls on the particular shaft, when use is continued in
this way state, when it is worst, the shaft breaks and the water pump
does not operate, overheats and is a possibility of becoming travelling
impossible.
Fix: All vehicle, the fan coupling and the water pump
are exchanged to the item well.
???
Frame numbers: KD-KZN185W, KZN185-0001022
- KZN185-0041496, KZN185-9000000 - KZN185-9010906, KD-KZN185G, KZN185-0001022
- KZN185-0041496, KZN185-9000000 - KZN185-9010906
Report date: May 27 1997
Production period: December 23rd 1994 - February 24 1997
Condition circumstances: Because the rubber plug which
is on the left side of the motive for action machine (the dead water plug)
heat resistance is insufficient, when crack occurs in particular lag,
the chilled water leaks, it is worst, there is a possibility of reaching
to the overheat.
Fix: Serial number of the motive for action machine is
verified, the vehicle which corresponds exchanges the rubber plug with
the measure item.
Cylinder Head/Gasket
Frame numbers: E-VZN185W, VZN185-0001031
- VZN185-0064314
Report date: July 09 1998
Production period: November 20th 1995 - September 30
1996
Condition circumstances: Because the motive for action
machine (the V type 6 cylinder gasoline engine) there are insufficient
ones in sealing up efficiency of the cylinder head gasket, when use is
continued in that way state, when the chilled water leaks from the particular
gasket, it is worst, there is a possibility of reaching to the overheat.
Fix: Serial number of the motive for action machine is
verified, the vehicle which corresponds exchanges the particular gasket
with the measure item.
